 Community
Energy Education and Public Participation
Citizen participation is an important element in a successful
community energy plan. Involving citizens in the development
and implementation of such a program helps them understand how
the plan will benefit both them as individuals and the community
as a whole. It also encourages input of citizen ideas and increases
public confidence and support in the plan.
Similarly, education can play a key role. Educating business owners,
homeowners, building managers, students, and consumers about the benefits
of energy conservation can help consumers make wise energy choices and
to contribute to the effort as a whole.
For more information on how communities are educating their
residents about energy, and encouraging them to become more
involved with energy-related issues, see the Community Energy
Success
