Green Development Programs / Rating Systems
Green building and green development are becoming more widespread
as a solution to building-related problems, as well as a step
toward achieving a more sustainable future.
Green building programs are emerging to encourage builders
and developers to incorporate sustainable building practices,
systems, and materials into their building projects.
US Green
Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED ) Standard
A voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing
high-performance, sustainable buildings. Members of the U.S.
Green Building Council representing all segments of the building
industry developed LEED and continue to contribute to its evolution.
LEED standards are currently available for:
- New construction and major renovation projects (LEED 2.1)
- Existing building operations (LEED-EB, Pilot version)
- Commercial interiors projects (LEED-CI, Pilot
version)

Building Energy Rating Systems
Offer access to a wide range of information on programs and
resources related to Green Development.
Rocky
Mountain Institute's Green Development Services
Works directly with developers, architects, and other real-estate
professionals to integrate resource-efficient and environmentally
responsive design into specific projects. Also compiles case
studies and research new policies, technologies, and techniques
for improving the performance of buildings. Includes links
to a number of Green Development resources including university
programs.
Florida
Green Development Designation Standard
A voluntary tool offered by the Florida Green Building Coalition
that guides developers and design teams through the process
of selecting green features that benefit the environment while
providing long-term value to the project
Austin's
Smart Growth Matrix
Assists the Austin City Council in analyzing development proposals
within the Desired Development Zone. It is designed to measure
how well a development project meets the City's Smart Growth
goals such as: 1) the location of development; 2) proximity
to mass transit; 3) urban design characteristics; 4) compliance
with nearby neighborhood plans; 5) increases in tax base, and
other policy priorities.
The
Conservation Fund's Planning and Design Program
Demonstrates environmentally-based development strategies. The
Program helps create exceptional places that meet quality of
life goals, protect sensitive resources, build healthy and diverse
communities, and address regulatory and fiduciary matters in
innovative ways.
National
Association of Homebuilders Research Center -- Information on
Land Development
Supports green building research for remodeling and new construction.
Summary
of Green Building Programs- National Association of
Homebuilders Research Center (PDF Format)
Provides a census of residential green building programs across
the United States to assess differences and similarities among
