Drinking Water from Forests and Grasslands: A Synthesis of the Scientific Literature
A report from the Southern Research Station of the USDA Forest Service. It aims to inform land managers about specific effects of land-use practices on drinking water, giving them the best tools with which to decide how to protect human health by protecting drinking water. Oil in the Sea
This National Academy of Sciences report indicates that most oil pollution in North American coastal waters is the collective result of individual users, not of industrial spills. A panel convened by the Academy concludes that the thousands of tiny releases carried to sea by stream and sewer are equivalent to an Exxon Valdez oil spill every eight months. While agencies monitor sources of runoff pollution from specific or point sources, no agency is appointed to police the non-point runoff.

Use and Economic Importance of the West Branch of the Farmington River
This study released by American Rivers concludes that, since its designation as a National Wild and Scenic River, recreational use of the West Branch of the Farmington has increased property values, helped diversify the local economy, and had an estimated annual economic impact of $3.63 million for the five towns nearest the river stretch studied.
